Naoussa, Lefkes & the Byzantine Way
by xkorov ·
Trip-fulls of Paros essence: A choice of 3 ‘Drive & Walks’ to combine guided visits to coastal Naoussa town or the hillside villages of Lefkes & Prodromos with their maze-like alleys & traditional houses, with easy hikes either along the herb-scented Byzantine Way or in the spectacular rocky landscapes of Paros Park! Can include Greek coffee & sweet break – private tours with hotel pick-up & transfer for up to 6 persons.
We pick you up from your hotel in our minivan and drive you to Naoussa for a short tour of the traditional town center and the picturesque port with its remains of the Frankish (Venetian) fort. We then drive you to Lefkes in the island’s interior, and start with a short tour of the village. Perched high on the hills but still invisible from the sea, Lefkes is the heart of an older, agricultural Paros, with narrow, winding alleys, white-washed stacked houses and an impressive marble-built cathedral. We soon find ourselves on the Byzantine Way, a centuries-old marble-paved footpath to the next village and the port to Naxos. The path is often paved with marble plates and offers beautiful views of Parian nature as it winds around traditionally tiered hillsides with olive groves, old vineyards and grain fields; in springtime, it is also full of aromas of thyme, oregano, sage and other herbs that skirt the trail. There are some uphill parts to the walk but nothing too difficult.
The 4.5km & 1h30m-long hike ends at the village of Prodromos with its labyrinthine alleys and charming chapels, where a nice Greek coffee-and-pastry break will reward your efforts in an authentic Cycladic setting.
The return to your hotel is a short drive along an alternate route to enjoy more of the Parian countryside.
