Description
We meet and set forth at Piso Aliki beach. After bike fitting and instructions we start riding right by the water, passing by the fishermen’s port, the waterfront and the beach of St. Nicholas, and find ourselves heading west on paved back roads.
We hit the coastline again and cycle alongside a string of beaches, enjoying a shifting perspective that follows the curve of the Paros-Antiparos channel. Our aim at this stage is to reach the golden-sanded beach of Voutakos, which we explore at its full-length on foot.
Up next, we briefly cycle on quiet asphalt roads and inland country lanes before we return to the waterline, catching glimpses of the rolling hills of Antiparos island ahead. We go past rows of sea pines framing perfect seascapes (especially in sunset colors) to reach the long, sandy stretch of Pounta beach and enjoy the sight of multi-colored kite-surfing sails of the popular surfing spot. We cycle the full length of Pounta beach to reach the small port of Pounta, the gateway to Antiparos Island.
[E-bike Version] The port of Pounta marks the point of our leaving Paros on the ferry (5-min crossing) for Antiparos. There, we visit parts of the island’s scenic northern coast on bike, as well as the traditional Cycladisc village with its white-washed houses, chapels and a small but interesting medieval fortified enclave. Weather & time allowing, there is also possibility of a quick dip in the emerald waters of Psaraliki beach close to Antiparos town before boarding the ferry back to Pounta.
Back at Pounta port, we start cycling on our way back through quiet country lanes in the agricultural valley of Kambi. We now head N-NE, going past barley-fileds and vineyards and taking in views of the island’s interior and the mountains up ahead. After some dirt riding, we are back on quiet paved road, making it an easy roll to Aliki village (suitable for biking in low light/return by night).
